Who Runs jupiter?

The jupiter - space to talk service was initially conceived by Caring for Our Port Stephens Youth (COPSY Inc.), which served as "mission control" for the service. COPSY, established as a registered charity in 2015, aimed to create a free, sustainable mental health support service for young people aged 12-25 in the Port Stephens area.

A comprehensive needs analysis in 2016, followed by community workshops in 2017, confirmed the demand for a free, confidential counselling service. This vision came to life with the official launch of jupiter in March 2019.

Exciting News: jupiter's Next Chapter

In a significant development during 2024, jupiter has now merged with KYDS Youth Counselling, a leading provider of youth counselling services. This merger strengthens jupiter’s foundation and expands its capacity to continue providing free, vital mental health support under the "jupiter - space to talk" brand.

What Does This Mean for jupiter?

  • Same Jupiter, Stronger Future: jupiter will maintain its name, mission, and commitment to serving the youth of Port Stephens.
  • Extra Support: With KYDS backing us, we now have greater capacity to meet the growing needs of our community.
  • Broader Funding Opportunities: As part of KYDS, we can access larger funding opportunities, enabling future growth and stability.
  • Pooling Resources for a Stronger Team: The merger combines our expertise, creating a stronger clinical team to support young people more effectively.

COPSY will continue to be involved through the local Sub-Committee, ensuring ongoing community engagement and support.
